Description

Join Waitomo Adventures – New Zealand’s leading provider of Blackwater Rafting & Cave Abseiling – for an amazing Indiana Jones style adventure; exploring the dark depths of the incredible Waitomo Caves area.

With over 25 year’s experience, the Waitomo Adventures group know what they are doing and have a firm commitment to infrastructure, industry standards and training. They place your safety above everything else – and as a result – they have gained an outstanding safety reputation and a ‘no serious harm’ safety record. The tours on offer include caving, tubing, blackwater rafting and abseiling – all of which are overseen by an experienced, professional and friendly team of guides.
Located within 2 hours of both Auckland and Rotorua, the Waitomo Glow Worm Caves are an excellent choice for a day of fun and excitement, and there are options available for everyone.

On all relevant tours, we will supply: all equipment including helmets, lights, special vertical gear, and overalls/wetsuits (as appropriate) and PVC boots. It is a good idea to bring thick socks, although this is optional (note: your socks will get muddy).

Our safety equipment is the best available, meeting all industry standards and is often manufactured specifically for our needs. Our guides are industry trained to the highest possible standards and high guide ratios (ranging from 1:4 to 1:6, depending on the activity) increases your safety.

Tumu Tumu Toobing
Besides blackwater rafting, you will walk, swim, climb and tube your way through an awesome network of Tumu Tumu cave tunnels. With an impressive two hours of underground exploring, you will be perpetually amazed at the intriguing cave formations and gorgeous glow worms that you will see along your journey. This fantastic trip incorporates all of the best elements into one powerful adventure that you will remember for years to come.

You will need to allow four hours for this trip and the minimum age is 12 years old (minimum weight 40kgs). A hot shower is available afterwards and you will need to bring swimwear and a towel.

Haggas Honking Holes
This action packed adventure is not for the fainthearted. A series of rock climbs, abseils, crawling and cruising activities keep you on your toes as you explore this fantastic area at a fast pace. See the amazing rock formations and glow worms up close and personal as you navigate the sub terrain. You will certainly get the Indiana Jones experience on this trip, so fitness and courage is a necessity; although, full training is provided so no experience is required.

You will need to allow four hours for this trip (incl. two hours underground) and the minimum age is 15 years old. A hot shower is available afterwards and you will need to bring swimwear and a towel.

Lost World Tour - 4 hours
This out-of-this-world experience is reminiscent of a Tomb Raider adventure game. Your first 30 minutes involves a slow descent, abseiling (rappelling) 100m into the wondrous and mysterious abyss. With your knowledgeable and experienced guide right beside you, you can experience the feeling of exploring a lost world, full of weird and wonderful formations and plants. With an abseiling height that is almost twice that of any other cave at Waitomo, you will have plenty of time to fully emerge yourself in the magic of the misty, dapple lighted void. When you reach the cavern floor, you will embark on a tour back up through another amazing dry cavern.

You will need to allow four hours for this trip (incl. two hours underground) and the minimum age is 10 years old. Please wear, comfortable, loose fitting clothes (no jeans!).

Lost World Epic - 7 hours
In the Lost World Epic tour, you get the chance to experience the descent as described in the Lost World Tour (above), but the ascent is so much more adventurous! After the 30-minute descent, you will enjoy lunch in possibly the most unique setting you will ever experience – 100m underground. After you have refuelled your energy, you will walk, swim and climb upstream to continue on a phenomenal journey through the vast, cathedral-sized vaults. You will encounter beautiful glow worms, fossilised oysters, ancient whale bones and majestic waterfalls along the way, before being welcomed back to reality on the surface, with a delightful BBQ meal near the cave.

You will need to allow seven hours for this trip and the minimum age is 15 years old. A hot shower is available afterwards and you will need to bring swimwear and a towel. All drinks and meals included.
