4 Day Trip Itinerary

Day 1
The 4 Day Abel Tasman Getaway begins at Paradiso Backpackers in Nelson, where you meet up with your 2 incredible Backyard Roadies guides and small group of new best mates. Load your gear onto the bus and start off your Abel Tasman multi-day trip with a scenic drive to Kaiteriteri Beach, via a quick stop off at the ‘Centre of New Zealand’. After lunch at Kaiteriteri, cruise the Abel Tasman National Park on an exclusive 4 hour sailing charter around the bays. This is an epic introduction to the Abel Tasman before continuing along the coast to your accommodation in Marahau, which will be your home for the next 4 days.

Day 2
Get up close and personal with Abel Tasman National Park on the second day of your Backyard Roadies adventure. Together with your group, catch a water taxi from Marahau to the golden beaches at Onetahutis, which you have time to explore before setting off in your kayaks. The kayaking day tour begins with a safety briefing and pairing up into double kayaks ready to push off into the turquoise waters of Abel Tasman National Park. Explore the coastline with stops at the resident seal colony, ‘arches of Tonga’, Split Apple Rock, Maori Pa (village) sites, lagoons and Anchorage beach. There is even time for sunbathing, swimming and coastal walks throughout the day, as well as a delicious picnic lunch included.

Day 3
After a well-deserved sleep in and cooked breakfast, Day 3 is spent taking a day trip from Marahau to Golden Bay at the northern end of Abel Tasman National Park. Visit the largest freshwater springs in New Zealand, Te Waikoropupu Springs, and discover its cultural significance from your Backyard Roadies guides. Once you reach Golden Bay, enjoy lunch and a local beer or cider at Mussel Inn before spending the rest of the day at the iconic Wharariki Beach.

Day 4
The final day of your 4 Day Abel Tasman Getaway is full of culture, stunning views and more awesome fun with your crew. Onboard the Backyard Roadies bus, take a scenic drive to the sacred place of the ‘Riuwaka Resurgence’. After soaking in the lush forest and clear waters, continue your journey to Mapua Wharf, where you can check out the boutique shops, stop for lunch and maybe even jump into the Waimea Estuary. The final leg of your 4 Day Abel Tasman Getaway then takes you back to Nelson, where your tour comes to an end, but you are left with lifelong memories and friendships.
