Booking was super-easy and all information sent to me was detailed with all necessary info. My bookings were seamless and the check-in process upon arrival was easy! One of our excursions had to be cancelled because of storm damage to the area, but the team contacted me well in advance to inform me of the situation and offered to book another activity or issue a full refund. Because of scheduling constraints, we opted for the refund and it was issued asap with zero complications. The staff members that contacted me were incredibly friendly and easy to work with - thanks Alicia and Sally!

Product rating:

Experience was well organized, informative and the staff (Libby & Kate) couldn't have been friendlier! Views are amazing - we got to see more than I anticipated while searching for the dolphin pods. When we found one, there was a baby dolphin which was magical! Unfortunately we couldn't get in the water with them because of this, so a partial refund was issued. Nonetheless, just seeing them was an experience itself! Loved every minute of it - and we still got to hop into the water once at a safe distance before finally returning.

Do we have to be vaccinated or can we provide a negative test instead? I'd like to buy a dolphin swim for my daughters Christmas present and my son and I will come along and watch. How much would this be please?

Thank you for your question about the Dolphin Swim in Akaroa. (at the time of writing) Unfortunately, under the current traffic light system and in order for the company to operate they require all passengers to have a valid ' My Vaccine Pass' when checking in. Children under 12 years old are exempt.

Hi my husband and I would like to book the dolphin swimming trip at 1.30 on 30 December (and bring our 9 month old baby on the boat). The black cat website says that they are full for this trip but your website still has some availability.
Could you confirm there is still space please?

Hi,

My daughter is 7 and a great swimmer, she would like to swim as well. I would be swimming with her as well so she wouldn't be alone. Would she be able to? Thanks!

Comments

Unfortunately although your daughter is a great swimmer there is a minimum age of 8 years old, therefore she would be unable to swim. She would however be able to watch the dolphins from on board the boat.

Hi,
Are there washroom facilities on board your boats?
Thanks,
Andrea

Comments

Heya, There are small toilets aboard the boats and full shower, changing room and locker facilities on the wharf (on land when you get back).

Hi - Wondering about public transport from Christchurch to Akaroa. Is there a transfer available or is it best to hop on a bus?

Comments

Hi Claire, The Akaroa Shuttle departs from the main wharf daily, there is also the French Connection shuttle however i am not sure if that is operating at the moment. You can find details of them on their sites: www.akaroashuttle.co.nz www.akaroabus.co.nz Kind regards, Alicia

is this activity suitabl even around winter (june /juuly)

Comments

Dolphin swim tours from Akaroa are available daily all year, even during the colder winter months of the middle of the year. You are given thick wetsuits to wear and once you are in the water and moving around the colder water is not usually an issue for most people.

What time is one most likely to see dolphins in early November--morning, afternoon or doesn't matter?

Comments

There is a resident pod of dolphins in Akaroa so it doesn't really matter what time of day. Often the weather is better (less windy) in the morning so I'd recommend booking for then if you want the best conditions.

how good a swimmer do you need to be to do the swim

Comments

Hi Ross. You don't have to be an excellent swimmer to go swimming with the dolphins in Akaroa however you do have to be confident enough to be in the open water without hanging on to anything. The wetsuits are very thick so they act as a buoyancy aid so you can't sink with them on. There is also additional buoyancy aids such as float boards and noodles which you can use in the water. As long as you feel comfortable enough swimming a short distance away from the boat then you will be fine. Please be aware there are no guides in the water and instead they are keeping watch from the boat. When were you thinking of booking for?

I am arriving on a cruise ship docking at Akaroa how do I get to the pick up place for the dophin swim?
Does the same boat take watchers only?

Comments

Hi Kris. Yes, the Akaroa dolphin swim and dolphin watch are both on the same boat that departs from the Akaroa wharf where I believe all the cruise ships dock or if the ships are too big to dock then you will get a tender craft in to the wharf from the boat that will be moored out in the harbour.
