For your Paddle N Walk kayaking tours in Milford Sound, does the walk go to Giant's Gate Falls?

Comments

Heya, They do try and make it there however it depends on the speed of the group. So they never guarantee it as they do not know who else will be on the tour.

Are y'all open Christmas Day?

Comments

Hi Heather, absolutely. There are currently some places left on the Sunriser Classic on Christmas Day, but we would recommend booking asap to avoid missing out :)

Hello from Melbourne,
We're planning a visit during Christmas and we're about concerned about the temperature and weather conditions - would it be too cold to kayak? What sort of gear would you suggest us to bring? Thanks!

Comments

December is generally one of the warmer months in the south island with temperatures typically in the high teens to low twenties. That being said, a cold front can come through and it can get quite cold. The kayaking operates all year on Milford Sound so as long as you have the right gear you will be fine. Bring snacks, water, sandals, towel, warm clothes, thick socks, sunscreen, insect repellent, sunglasses and a warm hat. Thermal top, pants, thick fleece top, waterproof jacket are all provided.

Hi, my Daughter will only be 14 years next year in April and we are visiting Te Anau in December this year. Can she go on the kayak trip with me ?

Comments

Thank you so much for your enquiry. The minimum age for kayaking with Rosco's at Milford Sound is generally 14 years old. You can, however, book the Milford Cruiser or Kayak & Cruise with your daughter as the minimum age is only 8 years old.

Hi from Melbourne.

Your sea kayak adventure has been recommended by a friend as we are visiting the South Island for Christmas.

How far ahead would we need to book your 5 hour adventure for Jan 1 or 2? Also, should we stay in Te Anau or Queenstown as I see you start at 7.15am?

Thanks,
Nicole

Hi Nicole. The Milford Sound kayak trips are very heavily booked especially over the Christmas & New Year period. I'd suggest booking asap. You'll need to stay in Te Anau as the drive from Queenstown to Milford Sound is 4 hours. If you book the Sunriser Classic you'll need to be in Milford Sound before sunrise (2 hour drive from Te Anau) or if you'd like transfers from Te Anau then you can book the Day Safari which is the Sunriser Classic but includes return transfers from Te Anau at about 6am returning back at about 6pm.

Hi guys,

Am wondering if it is possible to hire kayaks for multi day passes un guided? We are interested in exploring in depth the fiords with a GPS transmitter as security.

We are all fit and experienced kayakers, however do not own our own kayaks so would be interested in hiring full setup gear for 4-5 days.

Hi Kennedy, unfortunately Rosco's Kayaks concession to operate in Milford Sound does not allow for rental options so you would need to book a tour instead.

Hi,
My partner and I are interested in doing a kayaking trip on December 31, 2012. We have booked a bus back to Queenstown leaving Milford Sound at 2.30pm. What kayaking trip would you suggest that would give us enough time to make our bus?
Thanks

Comments

Hi Caroline you have a couple of options. You could either do the Morning Glory Kayaking trip which operates in Summer only and will depart at 6am returning 12pm or you could do the Sunriser Classic Kayaking trip which in December will depart at 7.15am and return 12.45pm. Both of these trips would ensure you make your 2pm bus. Click on the following link to read more about each trip Rosco's Kayaking Milford Sound
