Description
Set off for an adventure from Queenstown on a self-guided bike tour with Around the Basin. Queenstown, Arrowtown and Gibbston Valley are all connected by beautiful cycle trails, which pass by pristine lakes, along river banks, over bridges and through wine country. Around the Basin offer the latest model of mountain bikes and e-bikes, as well as transfers from Queenstown to Arrowtown so you can enjoy the best parts of the Queenstown Trail just one way and at your leisure. Whether you are cycling from Arrowtown to Gibbston Valley or back to Queenstown, the cycle trails are well-signed, made up of compacted gravel and contain only small hills with low gradients. With a map also provided by Around the Basin, this makes riding the trails a breeze.
Choose between the Arrowtown to Gibbston Valley or the Arrowtown to Queenstown route. Unless you are of an intermediate to high level of fitness, we recommend opting for an e-bike!
Arrowtown to Gibbston Valley
Cycling 15km along the Arrow River Bridges Trail from Arrowtown to Gibbston Valley is a highly popular route with a winery at the end. Around the Basin provide a shuttle from Queenstown to Arrowtown, so you can start your journey by bike along the Arrow River. This self guided bike tour takes approximately half a day and passes over the iconic Kawarau Bungy Bridge, where you can stop and watch the bungy jumpers before finishing in the Gibbston wine region. Around the Basin will then meet you at a designated winery to transfer you back to Queenstown - after you have enjoyed a well-deserved glass of wine, of course!
Arrowtown to Queenstown
Explore the rivers and lakes between Arrowtown and Queenstown on 35km cycle ride, perfect if you are looking for both stunning scenery and a bit of exercise. Including transfers from Queenstown with Around the Basin, start your trip by looking around the historic gold-mining Arrowtown and maybe grabbing a coffee. You can then cycle at your own pace along both the Arrow River Bridges Trail and Twin Rivers Trail, before returning your bike to Around the Basin in Queenstown before 5pm. With the option of a detour to the Kawarau Bungy Bridge, this route can take 4+ hours to complete, so be sure to keep one eye on the time!

- Children's bikes, kiddie bike seats & kids half bikes available. Kids under 5 years old put in a kiddie seat with mum or dad and are charged at the infant rate of $50 which also includes the car seat for transfers to & from town
- To hire an e-bike riders must be at least 145cm tall
- Bring with you comfortable closed footwear, suitable athletic clothing (ideally shorts, riding pants or tights), rain jacket, sunscreen, sunglasses, water bottle, snacks camera, money for cafes or wineries
