Things To Do In Te Anau - Glow Worm Cave - Tour Activities
A peaceful, lakeside settlement. The township of Te Anau is a great base for trekkers and visitors travelling to Milford Sound, and an ideal place to recharge your batteries. The tourism industry has ensured there’s always plenty to do here. Alternatively, on a sunny day it’s a beautiful place to just sit around and do very little at all.
Te Anau is situated perfectly, for accessing great walking tracks in the lower South Island. The most well known being the famous Milford Track, however other more boutique walks like the Kepler Track are also in easy reach. All tracks in this area take walkers through exquisite scenery, rugged beauty and breathtaking views.
For a small place Te Anau has a lot to offer. Cruises, heli scenic and fixed wing airplane flights are by the far the most popular, however there is also great fishing, golf, four wheel off roading, sea kayaking and diving to wet your taste buds.
One of the unique experiences in Te Anau is visiting the Glow Worm Caves – here you will have the chance to explore a living cave, still in formation and home to tens of thousands of glow worms.
Te Anau is nestled within an open basin, surrounded by huge, rugged mountains. During the winter they are picture perfect capped with snow. During the summer water skiing and picnics near the lake are a family favourite.
Te Anau has a wide range of restaurants. If you are looking for a place to stay, Te Anau has dozens of hotels, motels, backpackers, homestays and camping grounds right through the whole accommodation range.
