Fox Glacier Guided Walks, Helicopter Hikes, Ice Climbing & Scenic Flights
Fox Glacier is New Zealand's largest commercially guided glacier, situated in Glacier Country, on the west coast of the South Island, only 23 km's south of Franz Josef.
Fed by four alpine glaciers, Fox Glacier falls 2600 metres on its 13 kilometre journey towards the coast. Named after an early New Zealand Prime Minister, William Fox, the glacier is 300 metres deep and its terminal face is just 5 kilometres from the township.
New Zealand’s west coast glaciers are unique and probably the most accessible glaciers in the world, as they terminate amongst temperate rainforest just 250m above sea level. So special is this mountain environment, that it forms part of the South Westland World Heritage Area.
Half day & full day guided walks as well as heli hikes and ice climbing are the most popular way to enjoy Fox Glacier.
