When you arrive in Milford Sound, the best part is still to come with the Southern Discoveries Nature Cruise to discover Milford Sound’s renowned waterfalls and wildlife.
Start your morning by meeting your friendly and local coach driver at the Southern Discoveries Te Anau Visitor Centre. Step onto the spacious coach and sit back to enjoy breathtaking views through the glass roof and large windows as you begin your journey to Milford Sound. Along Milford Road, your Southern Discoveries driver will provide entertaining commentary and stop off to stretch your legs on short walks, such as Mirror Lakes, and make the most of photo opportunities.
As if the drive down through Homer Tunnel wasn’t spectacular enough, as you reach Milford Sound it’s time for the second part of your Milford Sound adventure, the Southern Discoveries Nature Cruise. Join your friendly Southern Discoveries skipper and crew to cruise around Milford Sound, with complimentary tea and coffee, a licensed bar on board and an informative guide to the fiord’s many highlights. The Southern Discoveries Nature Cruise gets right up close to superb waterfalls and the crew know all the best spots to view wildlife. If you’re lucky, you might see dolphins, a rare Fiordland Crested Penguin and seals.
Milford Sound is renowned for being the wettest place in New Zealand, which adds to the awe-inspiring amount of waterfalls you can explore from your Southern Discoveries Nature Cruise. This makes Milford Sound an absolute must-do all weather activity, so make sure to pack your raincoat! After an amazing 1hr 45 minutes to 2 hours on the Southern Discoveries Nature Cruise, it’s time to make your way back to the coach to reminisce about your day during the journey back to Te Anau.

- Sighting of wildlife are not guaranteed, but fur seals and bottlenose dolphins are commonly seen year-round, penguins are more often sighted during breeding season (August-November) and moulting season (March-April), and Dusky dolphins are occasionally sighted at Milford Sound
